Callan

Regaining Strength

Callan was diagnosed with Demyelination, at the age of 16 years old, a central nervous system disease, resulting in breathing difficulties, and upper body paralysis.  During her six-month stay at Bloorview, Callan received extensive Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy to regain her upper body strength.  She also acquired life skills for independent living, such as dressing, showering, and preparing food.  Currently in grade 12, Callan can do anything that an able-bodied person can do, including lifting her left arm over her head, thanks to the strategies that she had acquired during her stay at Bloorview.
